چکیده

-1. The iron content of whole milk and the distribution of iron between fractions separated by centrifugation was determined on milk obtained from lactating laboratory rats (Rattus norvegicus), rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and quokkas (Setonix brachyurus) at various stages of lactation. In rat milk, the distribution of 59Fe label administered in vivo or added in vitro was also studied. 2. Milk iron values previously found in rats, quokkas and rabbits by others were confirmed. In all three species the iron content of milk was highest at the beginning of lactation and was considerably reduced towards the end. In general, milk iron concentration was inversely proportional to the stage of maturity at which the young of the species are born. 3. In the rat and the quokka, the two species with particularly high milk iron content, the amount of iron in the cream (fat) and whey fractions was small but was relatively constant throughout lactation. The remainder of the iron was associated with casein; this latter fraction gave the milk its iron-rich character.

Responses of Milk Urea Nitrogen Content to Dietary Rume Degradable Protein Level in Lactating Holstein Dairy Cows

Nine multiparous lactating cows averaging 171 days in milk were divided according to days in milk and milk production into three 3×3 Latin squares with three 3-week periods to investigate the effect of rumen degradable protein on milk urea nitrogen. Diets were formulated to provide 3 concentrations of dietary rumen degradable protein (9.8, 10.8, and 11.8% of dry matter), while rumen undegradabl...

The influence of administration of different doses of arginine and lysine coupled with zinc in the lactating ewes on the zinc concentration in milk

Zinc (Zn) plays an essential role in the human and animal body system. Zinc deficiency might cause many disorders, so it is important to provide a sufficient amount of this microelement in both animals and humans. One of the most important sources of Zn is milk. The purpose of this study was to determine whether Zn can pass through the mammary epithelial cell into milk by a cotransport system w...

Milk Production and Composition, and Intake of Holstein Lactating Cows Fed Diets with Partial Substitution of Soybean Meal with Flaked Field Pea

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of a partial substitution of soybean meal with field pea (Pisum sativum) in Holstein lactating dairy cow diets on dry matter intake, milk yield and composition, blood metabolites, rumen ammonia-N concentration and pH. Eighteen lactating Holstein cows were randomly assigned into three groups based on parity, days in milk, and mil...
